The Long Way Home

a story of hope and survival by Shauna Joas

The doorbell rings unexpectedly at a late hour… An unimaginable event has taken place that will have an impact on the rest of a family’s life.  This book tells the true story that started with a potential tragic accident that occurred when a husband was struck, on his bicycle, as he was commuting home from work on a beautiful March day in 2016. As he clings to life in a helicopter on his way to the hospital, the police ring the doorbell to inform his wife and family. The long way home begins.

This book is a graphic yet poignant memoir of Bryan's traumatic accident and his subsequent recovery journey as recounted by his wife. She details not only the journey of Bryan, but how she survived during this major upheaval in her family's life.

"This is an incredibly honest account of an inexplicable event. Shauna Joas keeps her readers immediately at her side as she tries to navigate the aftermath of her husband being very nearly killed by a hit and run driver. Her willingness to write about the most personal, difficult details of the ordeal are both brave and affecting. This openness engages the reader and gives the book great authenticity."
